Per-App Shortcuts on Mac: One Ring for Every App

Published: 2026-10-18 · WorkRing Editorial

Set up different actions for each frontmost app on your Mac. Per-app profiles keep shortcuts relevant and your hands calm.

The problem with one-size-fits-all

A single set of shortcuts rarely fits every app. The action you need in a browser differs from the one you need in a design tool or an editor.

Global shortcuts also collide. The combination you picked for one task may already mean something else in another app.

Profiles that follow the frontmost app

WorkRing detects the frontmost app and loads its dedicated ring. Apps without a profile use your default ring.

That means the same gesture can mean build in an editor, new tab in a browser and open Projects in Finder.

A simple way to build profiles

Begin with the three apps you use most. Give each a ring with four or five sectors you really use. Add more over time. Fewer, well-chosen actions beat a crowded ring.

Download WorkRing

WorkRing opens an 8-sector ring right at your cursor. Run Shortcuts, jump to folders, launch apps, paste snippets and send keyboard shortcuts, all without leaving the spot where your hand already is.
