Mac Quick Launcher Alternatives: Beyond Spotlight and the Dock
Compare the main ways to launch things quickly on a Mac, from Spotlight and keyboard launchers to a radial ring at the cursor.
The usual ways to launch on a Mac
Most people combine the Dock, Spotlight and a few keyboard shortcuts. Each is good at something: the Dock for pinned apps, Spotlight for typing a name.
The weakness is that they either take your hand to the keyboard or your pointer to the screen edge.
Where a radial launcher fits
A radial ring is a third style. It stays where your pointer already is and relies on direction rather than typing. It suits actions you repeat many times a day and do not want to type out.
It does not replace Spotlight for finding arbitrary files. Think of it as your short list of favorites.
Choosing what suits you
If you work mostly with the mouse or trackpad, try a ring. If you live on the keyboard, a text launcher may be enough. Many people use both. WorkRing can also send keyboard shortcuts, so the two styles can meet.
Download WorkRing
WorkRing opens an 8-sector ring right at your cursor. Run Shortcuts, jump to folders, launch apps, paste snippets and send keyboard shortcuts, all without leaving the spot where your hand already is.
